Lueg Denkmal, Kaltacker
The mighty stone column is dedicated to the Bernese cavalrymen who died of the Spanish flu. Built in 1921
Monument
The striking stone block is dedicated to the 54 victims of the Bernese cavalry troops, who were killed less by the enemy than by the Spanish flu, and offers fabulous views of the Alps, from Pilatus to Mont Blanc. The highest point of the Burgdorf East 899 heart loop is located on the "Lueg," a crossing with a country inn and monument. The latter can be reached via a few steep steps. The so-called Heiligenlandpöli, at around 890 m above sea level, is the highest point in the municipality and used to have a watchtower where an alarm fire could be lit in case of war. The Lueg pass connects the Bernese Mittelland (Wynigen) and the Emmental (Affoltern im Emmental).
