Langnauer Liebespfad

With the new "Liebespfad" (Path of Love), Langnau Tourism is expanding its range of easily accessible themed trails. Twelve panels combine images from Franz Schnyder's Gotthelf films with the poet's original texts. The project was made possible thanks to financial contributions from twelve "long-serving" couples from the region.

Location

The walk, which takes about half an hour, starts after the Bädlibrücke bridge and leads along the shady side of the Ilfis river on the "Wintersite" trail. According to tourism experts, the splashing of the water, the rustling of the trees, and the chirping of the birds create just the right romantic atmosphere for the declarations of love and marriage proposals in words and pictures to take effect.

Among the best-known cultural achievements of the Emmental are the works of Jeremias Gotthelf and their film adaptations by Franz Schnyder. Both "beacons" still have great tourist potential. The two "Ueli" films, "Annebäbi Jowäger" and other Schnyder works from the late 1950s and early 1960s are still popular today. The new "Langnau Love Trail" revives the emotionality of these stories. The newly created "Love Trail" features 12 panels with images from Franz Schnyder's films and original texts from Jeremias Gotthelf's book: the most touching declarations of love, the most beautiful marriage proposals – and the most violent scenes of jealousy.

Romance on the "Wintersite"

The new themed trail was co-financed by contributions from twelve long-serving, storm-tested couples ("Wettertannen") from the region. To preserve their anonymity, each couple is listed on "their" plaque with only their first names (see appendix). These "Wettertannen" – most of whom are 60 years of age or older – are proof that "eternal love" still exists – and that it is still the norm in the Emmental.
