The Bären Eggiwil is a traditional Emmental establishment with a reputation that extends beyond the region. As a restaurant, event and cultural venue, the Bären team offers a wide range of services to provide you and your event with the perfect setting in a cozy atmosphere.
Restaurant
Until 2001, a total of four generations ran the family business, which was known far beyond Eggiwil – personalities such as "Bäre-Hans" with his wife Anna, "Bäre-Ruedi" and "Bäre-Bärnu" gave the country inn its character. As such, it has always been an important meeting place and hub in the history of the region. The Bären was also a hub in the truest sense of the word: in 1954, parts of the Swiss cult film "Uli der Knecht" (directed by Franz Schnyder) were shot at the Bären. The then manager of the Gasthof Bären, the legendary "Bäre-Mueter" Anna Stattler-Oberli, also made a brief appearance in the film. The stately building is practically in its original condition. The cozy wooden beams, the old windows, the historical photos, and the century-old "Bäre-Gschiir": the Bären breathes history, it lives and tells it.
Cuisine
The cuisine is seasonal, regional, and sustainable. The menu features Emmental classics as well as seasonal menus and typical country inn dishes. The wine list offers the perfect accompaniment to your event. Banquets and events
The Gasthof Bären has a total of seven different rooms. Suitable for a seminar, a board meeting, celebrating your party, as well as for a romantic evening for two or playing cards in the dining room.
Network
Gasthof Bären has been owned by the non-profit foundation Innovation Emmental-Napf since 2017. The foundation is involved in community and regional development throughout the region (youth welfare network integration, Eggiwiler symposium, Upper Emmental health center).
Children's offers
There is a children's playground in the garden for the younger guests. The children's menu also offers plenty of culinary delights for little tummies.
E-bike offer
The Herzschlaufe Langnau 499 trail runs past the Bären Eggiwil. Here, riders can recharge their batteries – sockets are available for e-bikes.
Leisure activities
There is close cooperation between the Gasthof Bären and the Geissbach event venue. Bring a clay pigeon from Geissbach with you and the Bären will offer you an aperitif. The Geissbach event venue in Eggiwil is a shooting range offering clay pigeon shooting, archery, crossbow shooting, air rifle shooting, and geological excursions.
Arrival and parking
- The Landgasthof Bären is located in the center of Eggiwil. Free parking is available on site.
- If arriving by public transport, take the bus from Signau station, line B 271 towards Röthenbach im Emmental, to the Eggiwil, Dorf stop.
