Kirche Trachselwald

The church stands prominently in the pretty village center of Trachselwald.

Events

The newly renovated church is a popular venue for weddings and, together with the unspoiled Emmental countryside, provides a wonderful backdrop for the happiest day of your life.

Foundation

The exact date of the church's foundation can no longer be determined. According to documents, the first small church is likely to have been built during the time of the Rütli Oath.

With a floor area of 8.5 x 5.0 meters and a height of just under 4 meters, this building was quite modest, but spacious enough for the lords of the castle and villagers of Trachselwald and the surrounding area. It burned down in 1525, but just three years later, a church that was 8 meters longer and slightly wider was consecrated. The church has had its current design since its complete renovation in 1686.

Sights worth seeing

The ceiling painting inside the church, which dates from this period, the baptismal font and the pulpit, as well as May's tomb slab, are all worth seeing.
