Gotthelf Zentrum Lützelflüh

The Gotthelf Center Lützelflüh showcases everything about the famous Emmental writer Jeremias Gotthelf. The museum's permanent exhibition is presented in the rooms where Albert Bitzius lived with his family, wrote his works, and received famous guests.

Exhibition
Five rooms and a long corridor on the ground floor of the rectory are available for the exhibition. The rooms are former rooms that Gotthelf had lived in with his family, as had his many predecessors and numerous successors. It was not until after 1900 that significant changes took place, due to electrification and the modernization of the sanitary facilities and heating system. In addition, books such as first editions, complete editions and editions, secondary literature, as well as letters and manuscripts play a central role in the exhibition.

Special exhibition
In addition to the general exhibition, the Gotthelf Center Lützelflüh also offers various special exhibitions.

Surroundings
In addition to the exhibitions, the magnificent surroundings offer the opportunity to explore the church with its rich history, Gotthelf's grave, the Spycher (formerly Gotthelfstube), the Pfrundscheune and the Ofenhaus.

Works
Gotthelf's works are characterized by an immense wealth of imagery, but his language is also very distinctive: not a motley jumble of written language and dialect, but a very conscious and artful combination of the two languages.
Gotthelf generally writes in standard language, but often incorporates bits of dialect, especially in descriptions and "direct" speech, which gives the language a certain immediacy.

Franz Schnyder from Burgdorf filmed the following works by Gotthelf:
- Uli the Farmhand
- Uli the Tenant Farmer
- The Cheese Dairy in Vehfreude
- Annebäbi Jowäger
- Money & Spirit
