The Gohlgraben is one of the countless "Chräche," or deep valleys, in the Napf region. The isolated individual farms are a distinctive feature of the landscape. Even today, farming the steep terrain is labor-intensive and the use of large machines is often not possible. This makes the region particularly suitable for livestock and dairy farming. The Gohlgraben route offers a glimpse of the Emmental region in miniature: a castle site and a boulder give an idea of the feudal era of the Middle Ages. Three stations are dedicated to the economic sectors that are still important today: cheese, wood, and livestock farming. The topics covered include geology and water, as well as the mighty farmhouses with their protective roofs and storage buildings belonging to the houses.
