Brätlistelle Steinweid, Sumiswald
Beautiful barbecue area in the Doppelwald forest on the hill between Sumiswald and Heimisbach.
In 2022, the municipality of Sumiswald renovated the barbecue area in Steinweid. Since then, there has been a log cabin with two long tables and plenty of seating, and in front of the cabin there are two more tables and a large barbecue. Firewood is also provided.
Activities
- The secluded biotope above the barbecue area is also recommended. Its origins go back a long way: during the penultimate ice age 100,000 years ago, a large accumulation of clay formed on the Steinweid. In 1829, a brickworks was opened at the foot of Sumiswald Castle, which began to exploit the clay deposits. Bricks and tiles were produced until 1968, after which the clay pit was recultivated.
- The Täuferpfad trail leads from Sumiswald church via the castle and Chleinegg up to Schönentüel and along the Steinweid barbecue area. Those who take on the hiking route will be doubly rewarded: on the one hand, it is a varied nature experience, and on the other, the ten information boards offer a highly interesting journey through the history of the Anabaptists.
How to get there
By car: From Forum Sumiswald or the Thal-Garage Heimisbach, drive towards Steinweid, parking spaces at the biotope.
On foot: Not directly, but almost on the Trachselwald-Lüderenalp hiking trail.
By public transport: Bus stop "Sumiswald Forum" or "Heimisbach Thal," then hike uphill.
Reservations
The barbecue area cannot be reserved.
