Bauernhof Bättwil, Burgdorf
Vacation on the Bättwil farm in Emmental.
The farm is located on a small hill outside Burgdorf. From here, there is a beautiful view of the town with its castle and the Jura mountains. The farmhouse is a large sandstone building with a staircase-like firewall. It was built in 1715 as a former town farm. The farm has been owned by the Mathys family since 1928. Now in its fifth generation, the family farms the 25-hectare farm according to IP guidelines. The main source of income is dairy farming, but the family also cultivates 4 hectares of arable land. This includes silage corn and bread grains such as spelt and wheat. We also tend to 140 standard trees. A vegetable garden and many beautiful flowers are also part of the farm.
Accommodation
The farm offers a vacation apartment in the farmhouse (6 beds), four double rooms in the Stöckli and in the guest house (bed and breakfast), and a shared room for 8 people (4 double beds) in the guest house. The double rooms and shared rooms have a small kitchenette with a refrigerator. During the warm months, you can sleep in the straw (approx. 30 places). Breakfast is served in the lounge every morning for all overnight guests.nbsp;
Sleeping in the fragrant straw is a special experience. "Sleeping in the straw" can be experienced from May 1 to October 30. Pack your sleeping bag and off you go!
Activities
The farm is home to 30 cows, 16 cattle, 10 rearing calves and a few fattening calves, 2 large donkeys, 1 domestic donkey, goats, a dog, cats, 5 chickens with a rooster, and ducks. Every year, the farm is visited by colonies of barn swallows and house martins. Schools
SchuB (School on the Farm) invites school classes to enjoy active and exciting learning on the farm. Overnight stays in the straw are also suitable for schools. Unfortunately, due to the renovation and new construction of the dairy barn in 2026, sleeping in the straw will not be offered.
