The Wool Trail
The "Wool Trail" runs through the entire farm and provides information on the diverse topic of wool as a raw material. Where does wool come from? How is wool processed? What is wool used to make?
Informative panels provide information about the various wool suppliers. Valais Blacknose, Zackel sheep, or Gotlandschaft – around twenty-five breeds of sheep are listed, and visitors can touch and feel a sample of wool from each one. Other panels show the wool processing step by step: After the sheep are sheared, the wool is washed, dyed, carded, and then spun, woven, knitted, or felted. All information boards are bilingual in German and French. On weekdays, visitors can watch the workers at the show carding mill. The machines, which are over 100 years old, are still in daily use. From the production area, the trail then leads to the shop. There, the diversity of wool is impressively demonstrated. From wool for spinning and "Lisme" to virgin wool duvets and pillows to clothing from head to toe, everything is available. The range is complemented by beds and mattresses, fur products, and care products made from lanolin and sheep's milk. Children are also well catered for on the "Weg der Wolle" (Wool Trail). The lamb "Spychy" arouses children's interest and informs them in a playful way. There is a lot to explore and touch. The Spycher-Handwerk area is also a kind of large adventure playground with lots of animals to marvel at and stroke. The cozy bistro invites you to linger. If you wish, you can also combine your visit with an overnight stay in one of the yurts, a felt workshop, or even a camel trek.
